What are Diabetes Symptoms

For many of us the symptoms of diabetes do not seem very serious when they experience them firstly. The reality, a huge amounts of diabetics go undiagnosed. According to current study it is estimated there are seventeen million diabetics in the United States alone, and it is estimated that 5.9 million of them never get diagnosed with this life threatening disease.

Most diabetics may even express a kind of disbelief when they are diagnosed to have diabetes. The diabetes symptoms can seem so minor that they don’t feel any different with their body. Since the symptoms can seem rather minor when they first start they can be attributed to other health problems. However diabetes is a real serious disease and it is actually the sixth leading deat caused by disease in the United States.

According to the information of American Diabetes Association, the most common symptoms of diabetes include:

• Frequent urination that is coming from high blood glucose which rise blood flow to the kidneys.
• Excessive thirst which is the results from dehydration caused by the increased urinary output.
• Extreme hunger because the glucose is unable to get into the body’s cells caused by the lack of insulin the body suffers from the energy deficit, leading to hunger.
• Unusual weight loss. Our body can actually loses weight because it breaks down the proteins and fats to make up for the perceived energy deficit
• Increased fatigue. It is caused by the decrease in energy
• Irritability
• Blurry vision. It is caused by the increased blood volume that causes a swelling of the lens of the eye.

It’s rather easy to see why these symptoms may be mistaken for something other than diabetes. There are many daily conditions that can cause some of those symptoms. For example the stress of everyday life can cause to fatigue or irritability and also depression which can also cause weight loss. Any number of minor illnesses such as colds or the flu may also cause diabetes like symptoms.

When our diabetes gets progressively worse so will these symptoms. Another thing to remember is that unlike symptoms associated with other illness in daily life these symptoms of diabetes will not just go away. If you experience any of those symptoms and they do not go away after several days, it is important to schedule a doctors appointment and discuss the symptoms with a physician.

The faster diabetes is recognized the faster prevention can be undertaken. This is important because the longer it is left untreated the more damage it will do to the body and its organ systems.
